| Membership |
There are five members in the Committee in total. The members were selected on the basis of their area of interest and technical expertise. Initially, members will serve for a one-year term.

| Working methods |
The Committee meets once a week during which the members brainstorm on the issues concerning social and cultural aspects. Issues are prioritised according to their urgency. Relevant agencies from both non-governmental and governmental sectors are invited to discuss courses of action being developed.
Functioning:
a) The Secretariat of the National Council provides the Committee's administrative support services and its budget. Other support mechanisms, be they financial or library resources, are not yet set up.
b) The Committee is in the process of setting up an effective system to fulfil its mandate and to respond to society's needs.

| Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
The Committee members participate in weekly plenary sessions with other committees of the National Council. These plenary sessions are primarily a means for members to report and share information and to discuss crosscutting topics that the Committees have in common. |
| Relations with external bodies |
The Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs works closely with agencies that are responsible for women and gender equality programmes such as the National Commission for Women and Children, Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women (RENEW), and the Woman and Child Protection Unit under the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP). |
| Subjects dealt with |
Given its recent creation, the Committee has yet to issue a report. However, the most topical issues on its current agenda include youth unemployment and women's and children's wellbeing. |
